Getting into uni or college

Do you think that YOU can get into a university or college? Do you think your friends & family could get in?

Play video clipWhen I say 'get in' I don't mean just walk up to the door and go through it as that bit is actually quite easy (unless it's those massive revolving doors that spin round really quickly & have dead little compartments). I mean study a course at university & get a qualification at the end of it?

Well, could you? The answer is, of course, YES! As long as you can find something you want to study & are willing to work hard enough to get the right qualifications, there is a course for you.

So what do you need to get on the course you want?

Obviously you want to do as well as you can in your secondary school examinations, both your Standard Grades and your Highers. You might want to do a course that leads to a certain kind of job (these are called 'vocational' courses) such as Engineering or Medicine.

Other courses are more general and mean you can keep your options open for longer. Not only that, but your degree subject does not always have to fit the job you end up doing (you might take English and go on to work in Banking).

The next step is to look at all your options. Think about what you enjoy. Talk to people and visit websites to check out colleges and universities (see our web links page for contact addresses for colleges and universities in the West of Scotland).

Why not look at the sites of Universities and Colleges in the West of Scotland to see if any of them can offer you what you want?

It is never too early to start thinking about what you might want to study and GOALS will help you as much as we can.
